"Hawthorne Place"
An Exclusive  Community built by Bill Mull offering Heirloom Quality Log
Cabins.
Only 10 cabins will be built on this one of a kind mountain ridge.
Private and Protected

Some cabins are available for rent from owners who have elected to rent
when not occupied by owners.

Each lot in "Hawthorne" has it own character, views, privacy, easy access.

All Bill Mull Log Cabins logs are transported from the mill in northern Kentucky,  with our specialized company truck.  Each load is protected from weather with lumber tarps.
The load rides on tractor/trailer air suspension.

Logs arrive at delivery site damage free.  We are able to shuttle logs to site with smaller trucks and trailers that can travel smaller mountain roads.
"The Gable End"  Log Siding Being Installed.  The gable end is framed with 2"x 6" studs providing space for extra duty insulation.  1/2" sheeting plywood covers the gable
end, with 1 layer of house wrap.  The house wrap provides a moisture barrier.  This material allows moisture in the cabin to escape, but does not allow moisture to enter from
outside air.  Skylight windows can be added to gable end on each side of exposed ridge beam support beam.

"The Foundation"  All "Bill Mull Log Cabins" have extra heavy duty foundations.  This is the most important part of building any structure.  The footing is excavated first to a
depth, that allows the top of footing to be below the frost line. (normally 12")  The footing itself is 3000 psi poured concrete, 12" deep x 24" wide.  The footing contains 3 rows
of continuous horizontal 5/8" steel, with 5/8" steel vertical steel every 2' on center.  Next the 8" cement block are used for the foundation walls,  with ladder type reinforcement
every 2nd course.  A special "U" shaped block is used on the last course, with 2 rows of horizontal steel placed inside the special "U" shaped block.  This is referred to as a
continuous bond beam.

The entire wall and "U" block is filled with concrete. The 3/4" x 18" inch foundation anchor bolts are then attached to the decay resistance foundation sill plate.  A foam
insulation strip is placed between the foundation block wall and the foundation sill.

The foundation walls are parged with two coats of cement.  Special attention is placed on the bed joint of wall and footing.  Making sure a seal covers the footing and bed joint
of wall. This keeps any water out and prevents freezing conditions from damaging the bed joint.

Two coats of colored  (waterproofing) material is applied to the exterior foundation walls.  One coat of bitumastic tar is applied to height of backfill along with one layer of 6 mil
polyethylene.
" The Floor System"  Parallel-chord trusses are part of the floor framing for "Bill Mull Log Cabins".  This provides a clear span in crawl space or basement area.  All of plumbing, electrical
and HVAC is placed inside the webs of trusses. Cabin floors without basements are next insulated and sealed flush.  6 mil polyethylene is placed on ground to provide a moisture barrier with
crawl spaces foundations.  Foundation vents provide fresh air to prevent mold and prevents any decay to wood floor system.  "Bill Log Cabins" uses "Advanteck sub flooring.  This sub
flooring has a 50 year warranty.

"Basements"  Numerous options on basements. Can be air conditioned or not. Half or full on sloping lots. Doors and Windows, bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchens (small or large).  Can be
completed at time of construction of cabin, or can be added later if preplanned with plumbing and electric.  Basements require a concrete slab floor.
"Log Raising"  8" x 8"  kiln dried logs are heavy.  When log are placed, it requires 2 people carrying logs to the craftsmen anchoring the logs.  The people carrying the logs must be very
careful not to damage the logs as they are moved from the storage area to the floor.  The people carrying the logs to the floor also assist in lifting the log to the course it is to be installed.  A
foam gasket with caulking is placed at every joint in the log wall.  The log wall is anchored at every course with 12" Boss Hog Log Screws".  Also as each course is laid, the holes for the
adjusting wall rods are drilled.  The wall rods are installed when the last course of logs are installed.
